Atelier

Our story & craftsmanship

Every ecko kids piece is cut in Paris, finished by a small team of petites mains, and intended to be mended, passed on, and remembered.

I

The founding

In 2014 Élodie Vasseur left the ateliers of a historic couture house to cut children’s clothes with the same seriousness. The first collection numbered twelve pieces: an ivory christening gown, a sky cashmere cardigan, a blush smocked dress, a navy velvet jacket.

II

The cloth

We buy yarn from two Scottish mills, silk from Como, cotton from the north of Portugal. Nothing is blended with polyester. Linings are silk or cotton. Buttons are mother-of-pearl or horn.

III

The hand

Smocking is still done by hand. Occasion hems are weighted. Knitwear is linked, not cut. A ecko kids piece should look as considered on the inside as on the outside — because children grow, and clothes are turned, and heirlooms are examined.
